Evaluations
A formal one-to-one evaluation of each student’s
progress occurs at the end of every bloc. The evaluation, and each student’s
role in completing it, are another way in which students may assume responsibility
for their academic lives. Students are evaluated in their three academic
classes as well as in other areas: personal skills, kitchen duties, maintenance,
room up-keep — i.e. community responsibilities. The teacher points
out strengths, weaknesses, degree of effort, areas of improvement as well
as how the student is performing relative to their ability. The evaluation
permits the students to assess their own performance and encourages comments
about the class or the teacher. |
